Create an Oasis of Festivity

Our home is small, and gets crammed with stuff really quickly.  It's a constant balancing act of appreciating works of art and school papers and little gifts, and then figuring out what has to be tossed or given to Goodwill so that the new stuff can fit in our little place!

But Flannery really loves to decorate, and so this year, I've tried to find little areas all her own that she can decorate around the house.  Of course, she helped with the Xmas tree.  And we put a train around the tree that she loves to take down and put back up again over and over.  But this year, I cleared a shelf upstairs for her to set out our nativity set, and she really took her time putting all the people around baby Jesus, and all the animals in places where they would be safe and comfortable.  I also let her put up a Christmas village on a shelf by our back door, and she was so happy to be able to create it just the way she wanted!  She put all the people and cars in a parade, and taught me how to smush down the "snow" so that the people and signs would stand up.  (Thanks to Grammie for those village set-up tips, and for our starter pieces!)

I also let her set out some snow globes on her dresser, and several mornings, I have woken her up and found snowglobes in the bed with her, yikes!  But so far they haven't leaked, so that's good at least!

What's your favorite Christmas decoration?  I love a wreath on the door for some reason!

  1. I'm so glad she has had fun with the village pieces. She is such a young interior decorator.
This might be the start of something very special.
